I must say I was a bit worried about taking my husband to the opening reception of Medievalism and it's influence on fashion was a bit scary. I didn't know how much of the lecture he could have taken, but I figure I would enjoy it regardless of what he thought. That and although I enjoy watching baseball live, I've sat through plenty of baseball games because of my husbands love of it. So, it was my turn : ).
Surprisingly, he told me that he appreciates the passion that people have for certain things and that it's actually refreshing. I love fashion so much and it was nice to see that my wonderful husband would support me in even the events I attend. I absolutely enjoyed my night and I'm still enjoying it as we speak.
We are revisiting some old albums we haven't listened to in years and talking like we always do. This night could not have gone better. And it was so nice too, because I usually rule him out when I go to the museums / fashion lectures and end up going by myself.
As far as the fashion and the history, Dennita Sewell the curator for the Phoenix Art Museum's fashion department always does a great job in explaining the mood of the times. I guess you can say the "zeitgeist" of the era. Absolutely amazing public speaker and would recommend to any aspiring fashion designer to attend more functions connected to their local art museum. Anything that you can learn about what people wore in different periods of time broadens your mind to design outside of what you usually would.
It is always so motivating after attending these functions that I started sewing a new wedding gown for my show on March 7th!
