There are a couple things I've learned in business and for some reason, I don't want to do any work until I get this off of my mind.
1.) Why am I complaining: As much as I complain about how busy I am, I really can't complain at all. This is what I wanted to do since I was four or five and now that my business is taking off, I have to realize this is what I signed up for and what I wanted to happen. Now that I am to the point of where I want to be, I have new goals to hope and attain.
2. Picking your battles: I've learned that not every fight or dispute is worth the effort. If I fought every fight for the sake of fighting, I would never move forward, I wouldn't grow as a person, I would not be able to do anything productive, it's almost like once you can let go of that anger you can do so much more with your time.
I know we have all been there, something or someone is bugging us and all we can do about it is call up all our closest friends and family and talk about it until a week has gone by and you realize that you are way behind on orders, school work and life in general. I know some issues are easier said than done, but I know next time something is bothering me I'll make the effort of saying "it's not a big deal."
3. Making decision: Like picking our fights, we can mull over decisions in the same way. Some decisions are more important than others and take a little more research, but I've realized that actions get you moving faster in the right direction than not moving at all.
4. Don't play the blame game: Whatever decisions you have made in the past or present and the outcome wasn't what you hoped, do not play the blame game! Whatever the outcome good or bad, it was all a learning experience and it's okay to feel disappointed. It's okay to point out the things that need improvement, but don't blame yourself or anyone if things didn't go perfect. Talk things through, accept the things you cannot change, remember the things that did go right and improve the things that need improving.
5. Surround yourself with positive thinkers: This is a lesson, I just learned recently. I have a wonderful network of girlfriends who own their own business and it's great to be around them, because we bounce ideas off of each other. For me, sometimes it is easier to come with good ideas if it is for other people. Sometimes when it is my own business, I can't see past my busy schedule or don't have time to think about improving my business when I'm fulfilling orders. Having a great business support system like Kym with
Ventola Photography, Holli with
Kensington Make Up Artists, Jenny and Meghan at
Lillian Lottie Couture, Sheila with
four white walls photography, Cherelynn Baker with
Make Up University, Allison Gee, Tiesha Harrison, Allyssa and Lisa with
Arizona Weddings, Angela Johnson, Kristin Dinnis, even new people I've met like Angela with
Angelina Rose Photography, the girls at
Thee Wedding Warehouse and much, much, much more makes a big difference in how you view your business and how people view yours.
6. Knowing it all: Hahaha, never going to happen for me. I've noticed I'm still learning everyday and I don't pretend to know everything about everybody and everything. What I do know is what my skill set is and what I can do for my clients and what I have done for my clients. Sometimes I feel that prospective clients are more receptive to someone who is genuine. I always take references from my personal experience and give them a genuine answer. Trying to have a real conversation, instead of just sounding like a salesman with all the facts.
