Reinventing that wheel

I've learned that occasionally in business and fashion that you have to reinvent yourself, processes and even your products. Like they say about the business cycle, if you don't have change eventually your business will enter it's death stage.

I know reinventing the wheel is hard, sometimes I feel like one of those hamsters just spinning and spinning, getting no where. This is where talking to like minded people can help your cause, a good friend of mine started this business book club. We have yet to go to our first meeting, but we have always found comfort in knowing that we can bounce ideas off of each other.

What you can't see in your business, people can see for you. We are even doing a 18th Century photo shoot after we saw the movie "The Duchess" and I have always taken inspiration from certain periods of time.

I know that when I debut this collection people can respect the wedding gowns for what they are, which is my form of art and who knows maybe a bride's favorite era is the 18th century and will want to buy one.

All in all, I don't think doing something different is bad for a business. I think it can only do more good, it shows creativity and ingenuity : )

Being the boss

Working for yourself is hard, making your own money takes time and being your own boss means you have to take destiny in your own hands.

As scary as it seems, this is what business owners live for. I was never content to sit idly by waiting for someone to tell me what to do. If anything, I am the type of person who runs ahead, even if it meant going into uncharted territory. This often means figuring things out on your own and making the most sound possible decision for every situation that may arise.

And that's the difference between business leaders, they are built with a hard exterior ready to face any unexpected complications from the decisions they made. But I've learned that a decision in business is never a mistake, it's either a decision with positive results or a decision that you have to work your way through.

I know a lot of people who have hopes in starting their business and anything new is always scary. I always tell them "go for it," in the long run doing what you love is the best decision anyone can make for themselves. Self doubt is always going to be there, it is there for me even after 5 years. But all in all, I like setting my own schedule, sewing all day, meeting people and seeing the brides face when she tries on the dress she has always hoped to wear on her wedding day.

And I know no one said owning your own business was easy and taking the challenge is the first step. You would be surprised how happy you feel when you do, even if you decide to keep your day job, you are starting something new and special that you can be proud of. You will also be surprised about how quickly you want to work on your business on a full-time basis and how much day dreaming you will do at work once you take the first step.

You will find out soon enough that daydreaming while you own your own business is easy, choosing which dream you want to fulfill first is the hard part. : )
